Chalet Quatre Meules has a contemporary Alpine style that feels comfortable rather than showy and has been awarded the prestigious Label Méribel, recognising the quality of the accommodation. The open-plan living and dining room is bright and generously proportioned for eight, with soft furnishings, plenty of sofa space and a log fire adding warmth to the modern interior. Large windows draw your eye towards Mottaret and the surrounding slopes, while the terrace gives you somewhere to step outside and properly take in the mountain setting.

One of the things I particularly like here is that the chalet gives a family more than one place to spend time. Alongside the main living room is a separate TV room with a large sofa, giving children their own space to watch a film or play while the adults stay around the fire and dining table. Upstairs are four ensuite bedrooms, two doubles and two twins, so nobody has to negotiate bathrooms in the morning.

The recently added ski room is another detail that should make a noticeable difference to the week. It’s a proper, spacious room for boots, skis and clothing, with outside access when you return from skiing and heated boot storage ready for the following morning. It’s practical rather than glamorous, but exactly the sort of feature you appreciate when eight people are trying to get out of the chalet at once.

And getting out in the morning is particularly easy here. It’s only around 100 metres to the edge of the piste, where you can click into your skis and descend to La Chaudanne, Méribel’s main lift hub. The ski-school meeting points and nursery slopes are here too, while Méribel centre is only a few minutes away on foot. Chalet Quatre Meules therefore works particularly well if you want to spend the week skiing rather than organising transport, with the restaurants, shops and life of Méribel close enough for evenings out too.
