Occupying the top floor of a contemporary chalet residence in central Morzine, Piste Noire has more character than you might expect from a modern apartment. Exposed timber runs across the walls and vaulted ceilings, while large windows draw your eye out across the Morzine rooftops towards the mountains. The open-plan lounge, dining area and kitchen are generous for ten without feeling crowded, with contemporary furnishings and touches of colour giving the interior a fresh, individual feel.

The main living level forms the heart of the apartment. The kitchen has plenty of workspace for preparing breakfast before skiing or cooking dinner in the evening, with the dining table and lounge alongside it so the group can use the whole space together. Glass doors lead onto the large balcony and outdoor hot tub, giving you somewhere to sit outside and enjoy the views across Morzine. Three twin/double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms are also on this level, each continuing the chalet’s use of natural timber. Upstairs, beneath the eaves, two interconnecting bedrooms share a bathroom to form a separate suite. It’s a particularly useful arrangement for parents with children, giving them their own area of the apartment while retaining some separation between the two bedrooms.

Piste Noire’s location is difficult to beat. The Pleney Télécabine is just 90 metres away, giving quick access to the Morzine-Les Gets ski area, while the Super Morzine lift for Avoriaz and the wider Portes du Soleil is around a five-minute walk. Morzine’s restaurants, bars and shops are on the doorstep too, which works particularly well for a self-catered stay: you can shop locally when you want to cook, head out for dinner when you don’t and leave the car in the underground parking for the week.
