Chalet Aphylla sits on a private road in Villarabout, a peaceful hamlet just above St Martin de Belleville, with uninterrupted views across the village and along the Belleville Valley. Inside, contemporary Alpine styling mixes warm neutral tones with local woods and natural materials, giving the chalet a polished but comfortable feel.

The open-plan living and dining room makes the most of the mountain setting through large windows, with two generous sofas and armchairs grouped around a glass-fronted log fire. There is plenty here for quieter evenings too, with a Smart TV, Sonos music system, books and board games. Doors lead onto the terrace, where the outdoor hot tub and deckchairs put those far-reaching views firmly centre stage. Four ensuite bedrooms sleep eight, furnished in a similar contemporary Alpine style with crisp white linen, soft neutral colours and plenty of natural wood. The size of the chalet is part of its appeal, with proper bedrooms and bathrooms for eight without the scale of some of the much larger luxury chalets in the Three Valleys.

Downstairs, the wood-lined sauna has its own shower, while the dedicated ski room has racks for skis and heated boot warmers. These are practical details, but they also mean the living areas remain exactly that, rather than gradually filling with boots, helmets and ski equipment as the week goes on.

Villarabout is around a two-minute drive above St Martin de Belleville, giving Chalet Aphylla a quieter position away from the centre while keeping the village and slopes close at hand. St Martin itself remains one of my favourite bases in the Three Valleys, combining direct access into the world’s largest connected ski area with the atmosphere of a traditional Savoyard village. Chalet Aphylla gives you the space and facilities of a luxury chalet on a more intimate scale, but it’s the setting that I think you’ll remember, particularly the view from the hot tub as the light changes over the mountains at the end of the day.
