Petit Sapin sits on a quiet street in central Morzine, close enough to walk almost everywhere but removed from the busiest part of the village. Inside, the apartment is contemporary and uncomplicated, with natural tones, wood floors and an open plan kitchen, dining and living room designed around the way a group actually uses a self-catered apartment.

Patio doors extend the living space onto a large terrace, with views across Morzine to the surrounding mountains. There is room for eight around both the dining table and in the living area, while the kitchen is properly equipped for cooking rather than simply providing the basics. Three bedrooms sleep up to eight guests, with two bathrooms, making it particularly well suited to a family or smaller group wanting enough space to live comfortably without paying for a much larger chalet.

There are some useful practical details too. Skis and boards can be left securely downstairs and the heated boot rack takes care of your ski boots overnight. A washing machine and tumble dryer are available in the apartment and there is private underground parking for one car.

The location is where Petit Sapin really earns its place in my Morzine collection. The Pleney gondola, giving access towards Les Gets, and the Super Morzine lift, heading towards Avoriaz and the wider Portes du Soleil, are both around five minutes away on foot. Morzine’s shops, bars and restaurants begin even closer, so you can leave the car underground for most of the week. That combination is what makes Petit Sapin work. You have Morzine within a few minutes’ walk in one direction, two different routes onto the mountain and, back at the apartment, a terrace looking out towards the mountains rather than onto the centre you have just left behind.
