La Rosière 1850 is one of my all-time favourite French ski resorts, combining high-altitude skiing, south-facing slopes and the chance to ski across the border into Italy. The Espace San Bernardo lift pass covers both La Rosière and La Thuile, giving you access to 156km of pistes across France and Italy; you can even ski over for an Italian lunch before returning to France in the afternoon.
Which lift pass: full area or local only?
The local La Rosière lift pass is only available for four hours or one day, so for a six-day ski holiday you’ll need the full Espace San Bernardo pass, which includes both La Rosière and La Thuile in Italy. You can also opt for the X-periences pass:

Beginner lift passes
‘Cool Ski ‘ lift passes for a restricted beginners area are €24.50 for 3 hours with access to the Tapis Lutins, Téléskis Clarines, Lièvre Blanc, Manessier and the télésiège Dahu for 3 hours. These can only be purchased in resort in person at the lift pass office in the centre or Les Eucherts.
Children aged 4 and under
Children aged 4 or under are free however a physical pass is still required (€2) and must be purchased with proof of age (passport) in resort.
Seniors age 75+
Seniors age 75+ are €18.50 for 1 day and must be purchased with proof of age (passport) in resort.
Ordering your Lift Passes
I can suggest the best option for your group and send you a link to book your lift passes directly online for collection when you arrive in resort. In some instances, it may also be possible for your chalet operator to collect them in advance so that they are waiting for you at the chalet. Either way, I can help you get everything organised before you travel.
Lift pass insurance
Carré Neige costs €3.30 per person per day and is available with all lift passes. It can provide useful additional cover alongside suitable travel insurance with winter sports cover. You should also ensure you have a valid GHIC where applicable.
What’s new in resort?
- 2025-26 saw the introduction of the ‘La Rosière Fun Race’, a fun race for all ages with obstacles, banks and easy challenges.
- It is now mandatory to wear helmets when skiing in Italy and you must have Civil Liability Insurance (normally included in most Travel Insurance policies).
- In 2024 the old, slow 4-seater Chardonnet link lift got a major upgrade to a 6-seater and now the return from Italy is much quicker. Beginners can now avoid the red run by taking the Chardonnet lift down to access the Italian side.
