Wondering where to eat in La Rosière? From traditional Savoyard restaurants and relaxed family favourites to mountain lunches and special-occasion dining, there’s plenty to choose from. I’ve spent many seasons getting to know the resort and these are some of my favourite places to eat, whether you’re looking for a long lunch in the sunshine, dinner with the family or somewhere a little more special.
My Favourite Restaurant: Le Genépi
If I had to recommend just one restaurant in La Rosière, it would be Le Genépi. Helen and Patrick have been welcoming visitors for years (since 2005!) with beautifully prepared homemade French cuisine in a warm, authentic Alpine setting. It’s the kind of place where every dish feels carefully crafted rather than rushed, and Helens’ attentive service makes every meal feel special. The menu changes with the seasons, featuring refined French cooking alongside local Savoyard influences and the carefully selected wine list perfectly complements the food. It’s ideal for couples looking for a memorable evening, but equally welcoming for families celebrating a special occasion. Le Genépi is consistently regarded as one of the best restaurants in the resort, so booking well in advance is highly recommended, especially during school holidays.
Another favourite restaurant: L’Ancolie!
A long-standing favourite in the Les Eucherts area and just at the bottom of the slopes, L’Ancolie is a traditional Alpine restaurant full of rustic charm and warm hospitality. The menu showcases classic French and Savoyard cuisine, from bubbling cheese fondue and raclette to beautifully cooked meat dishes and seasonal specialities, all served in a cosy chalet setting with a lovely sun trap sun terrace. It’s a great choice for couples, families and groups alike, particularly if you’re looking for an authentic mountain dining experience. It’s so lovely, I chose this restaurant for my wedding venue many years ago and come back every time I’m in La Rosière!
Best Restaurants for Families
Le Flocon
Located right on the slopes, Le Flocon is perfect for families wanting a relaxed lunch without venturing too far from the skiing. The large sunny terrace, children’s menu and generous portions make it a favourite for parents and younger skiers alike. Or if you fancy a game of Bowling or some Ice Skating in the late afternoon or evening, Le Flocon is perfectly placed just above the Ice Rink with the Bowling Alley located right next door.
Bistro Bichon
Offering pizzas, burgers, Savoyard dishes and plenty of choice for fussy eaters, Bistro Bichon is an easy-going option that suits all ages. The lively atmosphere means children are made to feel welcome while adults can enjoy a local beer or glass of wine.
Best Restaurants for Couples
Le Genépi
My number one recommendation for a romantic evening tête-à-tête.
Alpagio – Hotel Alparena
Alpagio offers elegant contemporary French cuisine in a sophisticated setting. Expect beautifully presented dishes, seasonal ingredients and attentive service—ideal for celebrating a special occasion.
Le Boréal – Hotel Residence Sky
A stylish restaurant with a cosy atmosphere serving refined Savoyard classics alongside modern French dishes. It’s a lovely choice if you’re looking for something a little more upmarket without feeling overly formal.
Great Restaurants for Groups
Le Genépi
Again, my number one recommendation for groups too!
Le Mazot – Ily Hotel
Nothing brings a group together quite like sharing a bubbling fondue or raclette. Le Mazot specialises in traditional mountain favourites served in a warm, rustic atmosphere that’s perfect for larger parties.
Rosa Ristorante
Fancy something different? Rosa serves excellent Italian dishes including fresh pasta, pizzas and hearty classics, making it ideal when your group can’t all agree on cheese fondue!
L’Accroche Cœur
Whether you want a hearty breakfast, an authentic Savoyard dining experience or a quick snack to warm up on the slopes; Accroche-Coeur offers it all. As well as gourmet French dishes, they also serve international cuisine as well as delicious cocktails.
Best Mountain Restaurants
A ski day isn’t complete without lunch on the mountain, and La Rosière offers several fantastic options.
Le Plan de Repos
A self-service, unpretentious restaurant with stunning views and a great atmosphere. Once the restaurant we all visited on the last run home (and we still do!), Vincent and family ensure a very warm welcome time and time again. Probably the cheapest restaurant on the mountain. Afternoons liven up with a DJ on the roof!
L’Antigel
At a 2000m altitude this restaurant offers stunning views over the mountains. It serves home-made gourmet dishes made with seasonal produce. There is also an outdoor snack bar where you can quickly refuel before heading back to the slopes.
PARADiS
PARADiS is a mountain bistro with an authentic and contemporary design, offering daily specials, wine list, bar and snack bar, where local produce takes pride of place. The restaurant has a large and sunny terrace with parasols and lends you straw hats to protect you from the sun or cosy plaids to protect you from the cold and a lively atmosphere in the afternoons with a DJ set.
Solario
Situated beside the slopes at Hotel Alparena, Solario combines an impressive sun terrace with elevated mountain brasserie cuisine. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for something a little more refined than the average self-service restaurant.
Best Value Restaurants
Ski holidays don’t have to break the bank. For excellent value meals, consider:
- Bistro Bichon for pizzas, burgers and daily specials.
- Rosa Ristorante for generous Italian portions.
- Le Flocon for filling lunches on the mountain.
- Several cafés and snack bars such as Aux 3 Ours also offer sandwiches, crêpes, paninis and waffles that make ideal budget-friendly lunches between ski runs.
Don’t Forget the Italian Side!
One of the unique pleasures of skiing the Espace San Bernardo is crossing into Italy for lunch. Many visitors make the most of the international ski area by enjoying authentic Italian pizza, pasta and espresso in La Thuile before skiing back into France during the afternoon. It’s one of those experiences that makes skiing in La Rosière feel a little different from many other French resorts, and a favourite among returning visitors. For one of the best pizzas of your life, head to Lo Tatà, just off the no.7 run before you hit La Thuile snowfront.
A Few Handy Tips
- Book popular evening restaurants before you arrive, especially during Christmas, New Year and February half-term. I can do this for you!
- Most mountain restaurants become busiest between 12:00 and 1:30pm, so eating slightly earlier or later often means shorter waits.
- Don’t miss trying local favourites including fondue, raclette, tartiflette, croziflette and myrtille tart.
