Opened in 2024, this beautifully designed spa and leisure centre has quickly become one of the hidden gems of the Three Valleys. I was lucky enough to attend the inauguration and have been going regularly ever since. Combining contemporary architecture with traditional Alpine materials, it offers a peaceful escape where wellness, relaxation and mountain scenery come together perfectly. Its thoughtful design also reflects St Martin’s commitment to sustainable tourism. The building incorporates environmentally responsible technology, including biomass heating and energy recovery systems, helping reduce its environmental impact while maintaining a comfortable environment for guests.
Whether your legs are aching after a full day on the mountain, you’re looking for a little indulgence during your holiday, or you’re simply taking a well-earned day away from skiing, La Belle Vie in St Martin de Belleville is one of the finest wellness centres in the French Alps.
A Hidden Gem in the Heart of the Village
Unlike many hotel spas that are reserved for guests, La Belle Vie is open to everyone, making it a wonderful addition to any holiday in St Martin de Belleville and it very reasonably priced too. Located just a short walk from the village centre, the building blends beautifully into its surroundings with its timber and stone exterior, reflecting the character of this charming Savoyard village. Inside, natural light floods the spacious reception and relaxation areas, creating an immediate sense of calm from the moment you arrive.
The centrepiece of La Belle Vie is undoubtedly its impressive leisure pool. Unlike a traditional swimming pool, this is designed for relaxation rather than lengths. Warm water, massage jets, bubbling seats, waterfalls and gentle currents help soothe tired muscles after skiing, while large picture windows frame stunning mountain views.
However, the real highlight is the wellness area. Moving between hot and cold therapies is a wonderful way to aid muscle recovery after skiing while allowing yourself to completely switch off. There are four different saunas: Finnish, Eucalyptus (with the most stunning view), Salt and Herbal. It’s hard to choose a favourite! There’s also a steam room, cold plunge pool (apparently three minutes minimum in the cold plunge is essential to reap the benefits!), ice fountain, bucket shower (I haven’t been brave enough to try this yet) and a relaxation lounge with comfortable loungers and complimentary herbal teas.
Finally, there’s a heated Nordic pool with an outdoor area with jacuzzi bubbles overlooking the surrounding peaks. Sitting in warm water while breathing in the crisp mountain air is one of those unforgettable Alpine experiences that perfectly captures the magic of a winter holiday. If you’re lucky enough to visit during snowfall, it’s even more memorable.
Indulgent Spa Treatments
If you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply feel like treating yourself, the treatment rooms offer an extensive range of massages, facials and body treatments. A deep tissue massage after several days of skiing can work wonders for tired legs, while the personalised facial treatments provide the perfect opportunity to completely unwind. It’s the ideal way to enjoy a little luxury during your holiday.
Why I Love It
I’ve visited many spas across the French Alps, but La Belle Vie stands out for its relaxed atmosphere. It never feels rushed or overcrowded and there’s a genuine sense of tranquillity that’s sometimes hard to find in larger resorts. Whether you’re enjoying the outdoor Nordic pool, moving between the different saunas or simply sitting quietly with a herbal tea while admiring the mountain views, every part of the experience encourages you to slow down and savour the moment.
Top Tips for Your Visit
- Book treatments in advance during peak holiday weeks.
- Bring flip-flops and your swimwear.
- Visit during the late afternoon when many skiers are still on the mountain for a quieter experience.
- Allow at least two to three hours to fully enjoy the facilities.
- If you’re skiing for the week, consider visiting midweek to give your body a chance to recover before the next few days on the slopes.
The Perfect Addition to Your Ski Holiday
A ski holiday isn’t just about skiing from first lift until last. Some of the most memorable moments happen away from the pistes: sharing a leisurely lunch, exploring a traditional Alpine village or simply taking time to relax and recharge. La Belle Vie offers exactly that. Whether you’re travelling as a couple, with friends or as a family, it’s the perfect place to unwind and experience a different side of mountain life.
